The Basement

We are passionate about supporting the next generation of scientists, inventors and innovators and understand the importance of providing space in which to ‘play’ – whether that play is discussing an idea, designing a product, prototyping or product testing. Our founders, Sir Martin and Lady (Audrey) Wood, began their first business (Oxford Instruments – the University of Oxford’s first spin-out) not in a high-tech lab space but in the big green shed in their back garden. The shed gave them the space to experiment with ideas; to try things out; to be creative and scientific without the restrictions and formality of an academic environment.

THE BASEMENT is our version of that shed – it is Oxford’s new creative space; a destination for everyone from our youngest inventors and science club members through to new entrepreneurs, tech groups and makers.

COMING SOON: In April 2018, we are launching a brand new rapid prototyping facility and co-worker space specifically designed for creative and innovative people and tech businesses across Oxford. More information coming soon.
