Science Oxford

Founded by the Trust in 2006, Science Oxford is the public-facing brand of the The Oxford Trust. Our aim is to inspire the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs and our programmes are all about encouraging young people in science, technology, engineering and maths.

For schools

We run the Science Oxford Centre, the UK’s first integrated indoor-outdoor hands-on science centre for early years and primary-aged children, which is open to schools during the week in term time. Our Primary Schools Programme includes a wide range of STEM-focused interactive workshops and shows for primary schools and training and support for teachers in the provision of creative and practical science lessons.

Our Secondary Schools Programme  is focused on STEM Careers. We run a programme of activities and events designed to create opportunities for secondary school students to help them gain the information, knowledge and skills that could springboard them into a STEM career.

For the public

We run Family Days at our Science Oxford Centre every Saturday where you can experiment and make discoveries in our Exploration Zone and explore the trails in our 15 acres of woodland. In addition, we run regular STEM Clubs, including Nature Club, Science Club and Creative Computing Club. See What’s On.

Each year Science Oxford’s education and engagement programmes reach and amazing 47,403 individuals, including 13,988 primary school pupils and 1,017 secondary students.

The organisation works across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. For more information on Science Oxford see here.

Investing in the next generation

The Trust is passionate about inspiring and investing in a new generation of science innovators. We know that primary-aged children who are encouraged to think critically and engage with the big ideas of science become more able to make informed decisions and flourish in our technological world. Independent research shows that by the age of ten many children will have already decided whether they are “into” science or not.

Oxfordshire is one of the UK’s most significant centres for science-based research and enterprise so investing in and supporting future generations is critical to maintaining the county’s position at the forefront of research and innovation.

Through our Science Oxford Centre and our education programmes, we aim to cultivate a positive attitude to science and lay the foundation for science learning. We give children the opportunity to experience the excitement of investigation, exploration, experimentation and discovery. We show them that science can be cool, can lead to an amazing career and can change lives.
