Unlocking science learning for all

The Accessing Science Fund is specifically designed to provide children and young people in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire with opportunities to engage in science learning. Targeting those who face challenges in accessing STEM engagement, our fund supports a wide range of transformative initiatives through Science Oxford’s established and trusted programmes.

After a successful two-year pilot programme, supported by the Edina Trust, our team really knows what makes the most impact on this cohort.

How the fund will make a difference

In partnership with funders, we will support schools that have a high percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals and those that have specific barriers and challenges, as well as community groups with fewer STEM opportunities.

The fund will :

  • Deliver STEM enrichment,  foster curiosity, raise aspirations, and encourage the pursuit of science.
  • Empower teachers with skills and resources to deliver high-quality STEM education in local schools.
  • Support community outreach to engage priority audiences through local events and clubs.
  • Create career inspiration to excite young people about STEM careers and the opportunity to create pioneering solutions for global challenges.
  • Improve STEM diversity to create the next generation of STEM talent to include those underserved and underrepresented in the sector.

The child-led investigations are great at engaging children in science. It is always interesting to see what ideas they come up with. The event has really helped raise the prominence of science at school.

Big Science Event

The children took off into space to explore the solar system from the comfort of school. They heard stories of the stars, visited planets and even saw the International Space Station. After plenty of questions and discussion, they made a safe landing back on earth. All thanks to Science Oxford. A brilliant day!
