Family Conservation Day at Stansfeld

As part of our ongoing conservation work at Stansfeld Park we are hosting a Family Conservation Day on Sunday the 5 November. In association with the Oxford Conservation Volunteers or OCV, we are inviting families with children from five and upwards to come along and learn about the site and all the work that goes into maintaining it for biodiversity. Tools and training will be provided; you just need to supply the enthusiasm and muscle. Among the tasks we hope to complete are clearing areas of scrub, cutting grass meadows, re-laying some traditional hedgerow and planting wildflower bulbs for next spring.
Dr Roger Baker, our Outdoor Learning and Ecology Manager says: “The Stansfeld site has huge potential but we can only realise this by working with committed groups like OCV. We want to completely rejuvenate the urban wild space so that children will have the benefit of outdoor STEM learning experiences and find out more about the world around them. Our new Science Oxford Education Centre will be the UK’s first indoor-outdoor education centre for primary-aged children when it opens in winter 2018/19 and the woodland is an integral part of this.”
In keeping with the 5th November date, we shall also be keeping warm with bonfires, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows, so please come and join us between the hours of 9:45 and 16:00.
