First official school visit to our new Science Oxford Centre
September 20, 2019
Today we welcomed Year 2 & 3 pupils from Oakley Church of England Combined School to our new Science Oxford Centre (SOC) at Stansfeld Park – our very first ‘paying visitors’ after the official opening of the centre at the start of September.
We’ve been running trial visits from schools across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire since June to help us see how the new centre works, test the specially-designed exhibits in the Exploration Zone and to try out our shows, workshops and woodland trails. There’s been some fantastic feedbackfrom teachers and children alike so we’re excited to now be able to share this unique facility with everyone.
Mrs Courtney (pictured above with some of her class) said, “We’re having a great day so far and the children are really enjoying themselves.” Another helper agreed, saying “They’ve got so much energy being here. They’re exploring and asking questions – it’s great.”
Mike Dennis, Centre Manager, who has curated the SOC’s primary schools programme, said, “Schools are starting to book up quite quickly now, which is great to see, with some as far away as May 2020. We had over 1400 primary-aged children through the doors during our trail phase from May to July and it will be interesting to watch that number rise as the year goes on.”
