Lab and workshop space opening at WCFI
February 24, 2020
The Oxford Trust is opening up to 8,000 sq-ft of wet/dry laboratory and workshop space for start-up and grown-on science and tech businesses at our state-of the-art innovation centre, WCFI, Stansfeld Park, Headington. The new facilities are scheduled to be open for occupation from early summer 2020.
All the laboratories and workshop spaces will be suitable for many types of life science-based R&D as well as medical device electronics, light prototyping and assembly work. The labs will be fully customisable to client specification with the ability to install gas lines, sinks and extraction. Unlike many traditional labs, these new purpose-built spaces are light and bright, highly energy efficient, ecologically sensitive and with views over the 15-acre woodland and ponds that surrounds the Centre.
Businesses will also be able to mix and match lab and workshop with office space at WCFI and will receive all the benefits of a fully managed facility – including a secure site with limited entry points, 24/7 controlled access, super-fast broadband and flood Wi-Fi, business support services, meeting and conference facilities, parking, an on-site café and a beautiful outdoor eating area. Businesses located here also benefit from being part of a thriving and fast-growing local science and tech community on ‘The Hill’, home to world-class research and clinical facilities.
Steve Burgess, CEO of The Oxford Trust says: “We are really pleased that we will now be able to offer lab and workshop space for cutting-edge science and tech businesses. Along with the recently announced plans to open Barclays Eagle Lab at WCFI, it will further help our mission to encourage the pursuit of science and enterprise by enabling us to support a wider range of innovative businesses in the Oxford area as they grow.”
The opening of lab and workshop space at WCFI means we can support science and tech businesses every step of the way from virtual office space, co-working space options with Eagle Labs opening in the spring and now small and larger office and lab/workshop options.
Located in Headington on the east side of Oxford, WCFI is part of the city’s fast-growing health and data sciences quarter, centred on the University of Oxford’s Old Road Campus, clinical research facilities at the local hospitals, Oxford Brookes University and the Big Data Institute. This advantageous location perfectly positions the centre’s high tech business residents at the core of transformational research and discovery, enabling easy access to this fast-paced and growing community. It is also close to major transport links such as the Oxford Ring Road, the M40, A34 and key bus routes to the city centre.
